65 Natrix natrix persa View in CoL - Italian populations are tentatively attributed to N. n. persa according to Kindler et al. (2017). Schultze et al. (2020) found in northeastern Italy a hybrid zone 70-90 km wide between N. natrix and N. helvetica , already observed by Thorpe (1979) based on morphology. The westernmost records come from close to the Po estuary and Ferrara (Emilia-Romagna).
