Medorilla subfasciata Rondani, 1856 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 74.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1861e: 79) added “ in agro parmensi [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one covered with mold, the other double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin) ( MZUF: Box 16): Medorilla Rnd. / subfasciata Rnd. / 809; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box D): Medorilla R. subfasciata R., 303, ♂, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 393 303.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Labigastera pauciseta (Rondani, 1861) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 423, O’Hara et al. 2020: 591).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 74) key for the genus Medorilla Rondani, 1856 lists Medorilla subfasciata as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. Rondani later (1861e: 78) stated having collected the male sex twice: “ bis marem tantum inveni [I collected the male twice]”. We found three male syntypes in this study.
