Longitudinal median stripe originating near base of hemelytra, extending to membranal suture with costal margin; margins paralell (figs. 12, 13). Fore femora without spine (fig. 14). Fore trochanters with group of ensiform setae at external margin (fig. 14). Mesotrochanters with group of ensiform setae near outer margin (fig. 15). Mesofemora with setae resctricted to longitudinal axis. Metaxyphus longer than ventropleurites; apex spatulate (fig. 16). Hind trochanters with continuous margin. Hind femora with continuous margin; inner margin with 13 bristles.
Ventral abdominal keel with hairs distributed throughout lateral surface. Dorsal margin with middle portion of genital capsule strongly concave. Right clasper rounded (fig. 17A). Left clasper longer than large tapering to the apex (fig. 17B).

Males. Color. As holotype, with embolium, and area between longitudinal median stripe and costal margin stained with brown.
Structural characteristics. Head with greatest width 2.0 to 2.2 times its median length, and 4.7 to 5 times greatest width of vertex; length 1.4 to 1.6 times median length of pronotum. Ocular commissure equal to or slightly longer than vertex.
Body length 12 to 13 times median length of pronotum. Pronotum with greatest width 3.2 to 3.3 times its median length. Scutellum with greatest width 1.1 to 1.4 times median length; median length 1.4 to 1.6 times median length of pronotum. Hemelytral process extending for one-half to five-sevenths of membrane length. Inner margin of hind femora with 10 to 12 bristles.
Females. Color. Body yellow. Labrum, triangle at the apex of second rostral segment, third and fourth rostral segments, dark brown. Ventral and dorsal surface of fore femora almost entirely brown. Area between longitudinal median stripe and costal margin, and embolium stained with brown. Mesotrochanters with outer margin brown. Mesofemora with large triangular dark-brown stain covering almost all base extending to near apex. Hind femora with dark brown stain at base. Setae gray to dark-brown. Setae on outer margin of connexivum yellow.
Structural characteristics. Head with greatest width 2.4 to 2.7 times its median length, and 4.5 to 5 times vertex width; length 1.2 to 1.3 times median length of pronotum. Vertex slightly larger than long. Ocular commissure about two-fifths of eye width and longer than vertex. Frons wide with sparce setae. Third rostral segment glabrous.
Body length 13.5 to 14.4 times median length of pronotum. Pronotum with greatest width 3.4 to 3.7 times its median length. Hemelytra as of the male with smooth constrictions at half and three-fourths of hemelytra length, both marked by translucent areas on embolium. Hemelytral process extending for a little longer than one-half to seven-ninths of membrane length (fig. 18). Outer margin of fore trochanter with several spiniform setae. Fore femora with spiniform setae on outer margin; a long setae slightly above half of length. Mesotrochanter without groups of ensiform setae. Mesofemora setose, with setae restricted to basal half of longitudinal axis. Hind femora with continuous margins; inner margin with 12 to 14 spiniform setae.
Taxonomic note. The new species is very similar to M. pacifica , with the same pattern of hemelytra stripes, except of the narrow opaque area adjacent to the claval commissure (fig.12, 13), which is hyaline in M. pacifica . Males of M. guajira have one group of ensiform setae at outer margin of fore trochanters (fig. 14) and near outer margin of mesotrochanter (fig. 15), both absent in M. pacifica . Females are differentiated by hemelytral stripes, which are similar to males (fig. 18). Type material of M. pacifica was not found in Museo de Entomología de la Universidade del Valle (MUSENUV), but material from the same locality was observed for comparison: Valle, B/ ventura, S. Cipriano, Rio [Valle del Cauca, Buenaventura, San Cipriano], 4.X.1988 (X. Gutierrez): 1 m, coleopteroid; B/ventura, superfície, 4.XI.1988 (C. Serrato): 3 m and 4 f, colepteroid.
Macropterous individuals were observed deposited at ICN, but there was not enough time to describe these forms during the visit of the first author to this institution. Their general pattern of hemelytra is similar to that of M.
gonostyla Truxal, 1949 and M. uruguayensis (Berg, 1883) , with hemelytra opaque, brown, and longitudinal median stripe hyaline.
Etymology. Epithet in apposition to the genus, referring to the Department of La Guajira ( Colombia) , where the type-locality is located.
