status

4.2. Myrcia sintenisiana M.F.Santos View in CoL (in Santos et al. 2020: 197). Marlierea sintenisii Kiaerskou (1888 –1890: 252). Type:— PUERTO RICO. “Sierra de Luquillo, in monte Jimenes”, 1885, Sintenis 1476 (lectotype K!, designated by Santos et al. 2020; isolectotypes LD [image!], US!).

The phylogenetic analysis of the trees of Puerto Rico ( Muscarella et al. 2014) placed Myrcia sintenisiana inside Myrcia . Resulting topologies vary in that work, placing Myrcia sintenisiana close to Gomidesia lindeniana O. Berg (1857 – 1859: 208) (= Myrcia fenzliana O. Berg [1857 –1859: 196]), part of Myrcia sect. Gomidesia , or close to a sample of Calyptranthes sp. (M. sect. Calyptranthes ). According to Santos et al. (2020), the closed floral bud opening irregularly suggests affinity with Myrcia sect. Aulomyrcia . Further molecular phylogenetic analysis is necessary to accurately place Myrcia sintenisiana in the appropriate section of Myrcia .
