1 Steudel (1840: 66) reports as a synonym of Malva cretica View in CoL the binomial Althaea hirsuta View in CoL employed by Sieber in his exsiccate from
Crete: it was in reality founded on the polynomial by Tournefort (l.c.) as well as M. cretica ( Tausch 1829) . Since Steudel (l.c.) cited Althaea hirsuta as a synonym, it is invalid according to the Art. 36.1c.
