141 * Leipothrix eichhorniae ( Keifer, 1979) : 9. (Amrine 1996: 73).
Previous genus assignment.
Type host. Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms (Pontederiaceae) .
Type locality. Piracicaba , São Paulo, Brazil .
Relationship to host plant. Mites are leaf vagrants or rust mites ( Keifer 1979).
Remark. Only known from the type host/locality. Smith et al. (2010) and Vásquez et al. (2015) cited this species as a potential biological control agent, however it needs to be confirmed by further biological studies.
Type host plant status. Native aquatic herb, not endemic, widely distributed in all biomes and regions ( Flora do Brasil 2020). It is spontaneous and invasive in tanks, lakes and rivers and cultivated in aquariums and decorative lakes ( Lorenzi & Souza 2001).
