Lea (1862: 176) designated the type locality for this species as “River Tigris, Assyria ”. Leguminaia wheatleyi specimens from the central part of the Tigris River basin should be compared with Leguminaia anatolica Gürlek, Kebapçi & Lopes- Lima in Lopes-Lima et al., 2021. Leguminaia anatolica was described from the Murat River, Tutak-Ağri, Turkey. Harris (1965) included L. mardinensis in his checklist based on Pallary (1939) and is considered a junior synonym of L. wheatleyi (Lopes Lima et al., 2021) .
