Pichincha, in M. Pich. Quebr. Pichan [monte Pichincha, quebrada Pichán], 1890, L. Sodiro 59/10 (lectotype: QPLS s.n.!, designated here; isolectotype: MO-714297 (fragment) digital image!). Syntypes: Ecuador, Imbabura / Pichincha, páramo de Mojanda above Otavalo, F.C. Lehmann 4917 (K-000497815 digital image!, isosyntypes: F-0076951F digital image!, GH-00012164 digital image!)

Senecio cayambensis Cuatrecasas (1953: 135) . Type:— ECUADOR. Imbabura, río Boquerón , east of volcán de Cayambe, 30 July 1944, W.B. Drew E-420 (holotype: F-0076877F digital image!; isotype: US-00123270 digital image!).

Nomenclatural notes: — The indicatio locotypica of the name S. mojandensis Hieronymus (1900: 67) reads as follows: “Crescit in declivibus montis Pichincha, alt. s. m. 2800 m ( S. n. 59/10); ceterum specimina collecta sunt a cl. F. C. Lehmann in paludibus in Paramo de Mojanda supra Otaválo, alt. s. m. 3400–3800 m, mense Septembri et Octobri florens (Lehmann n. 4917)”. The best preserved material is Sodiro’s specimen nº 59/10 kept at QPLS, here designated as the lectotype. The MO duplicate consists of only a small plant fragment and a picture of the destroyed specimen that was kept at B. The collection Lehmann 4917 remains a syntype ; we located specimens at F, GH, and K.
