5.4.2. Myrcia myrcioides (Mattos & D.Legrand) Mattos (2008: 4) View in CoL . Gomidesia myrcioides Mattos & D.Legrand (in Legrand & Mattos 1975: 14). Type:— BOLIVIA. Prov. Del Sara, Depto. Santa Cruz, 450 m elevation, 4 May 1916, Steinbach 2182 (lectotype MVM [sheet with J. Steinbach label] [image!], designated here; isolectotype MVM).

Gomidesia myrcioides View in CoL was considered by Nic Lughadha (1998) a member of the genus Myrcia View in CoL , at that time distinct from Gomidesia . Nic Lughadha (1998) considered the flowers smaller than normal for Gomidesia and supposed that the author’s description of the anther (“stamina generis”) was a mistake. However, considering that some members of Myrcia sect. Gomidesia do not have typical gomidesioid anthers ( Lucas et al. 2011), there is not an obstacle to place it in this section, though a more detailed analysis is desirable to confirm this arrangement.

The type of Gomidesia myrcioides View in CoL shares some features with Myrcia tijucensis Kiaerskou (1893: 102) View in CoL , a species from southern and southeastern Brazil, such as leaf shape and size, inconspicuous indumentum (except on the bud), and a pauciflorous inflorescence. Two sheets compose the type cited in the protologue, and thus a lectotypification was necessary.
