Erythrina enneandra View in CoL
The specimen G barcode G00458974, which was indicated by Krukoff (1939) as “type”, lacks of the collection date. Therefore, we cannot be sure that the specimen is part of the original material used by Candolle to describe E. enneandra . Moreover, Candolle (1813: 109) reported: “ DC. hort. monsp. ined. t. 57 ”. This plate belongs to a series of 978 plates drawn by T.-F. Node-Véran when Candolle was Professor in Montpellier and now kept at the botanical institute of that university (L. Gautier, in litt.). This magnificent plate has been reproduced in Rioux (1994), and it is formally original material for the name E. enneandra . Therefore, we designate it as the lectotype. There is no doubt that this is the illustration cited by Candolle (1825), but note that the number later written in pencil on plate, i.e. 238, is different from that indicated in the protologue, i.e. 57. Evidently, the numeration of the plates was rearranged when the collection was completed.
