6. Epidendrum henschenii Barbosa Rodrigues (1881:147) View in CoL

Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Caldas, between Capivary and Retiro das Antas, 1843, fl., Regnell III-1670 (lectotype designated here: P 00477919 photo!; isolectotypes: S 19-31771 photo!, S 19-31752 photo!, S19-31772 photo!) .

= Epidendrum brevicolle Kraenzlin (1921: 20) View in CoL

Type:— BRAZIL. Paraná: Jaguariaíva, 17 Apr 1911, fl., Dusén 11712 (lectotype designated here: S 08-3348 photo!; isolectotypes: S 08- 3349 photo!, HBG 501631 View Materials photo!) .

Notes: Barbosa Rodrigues described E. henschenii based on material collected by Regnell. We were able to find four specimens belonging to Regnell, three at S ( S 19-31771, S 19-31752, S 19-31772) and one in P ( P 00477919). Barbosa Rodrigues (1881) clearly stated that the type specimen was in the Regnellian Herbarium, currently S ( Santos 2016, Stafleu & Cowan 1976). We choose S 08-3348 as the lectotype due to handwritten notes and more flowers when compared with the other specimens at S; the sheet from P and the other two from S are designated as isolectotypes.

Forty years after the description of E. henschenii, Kraenzlin described E. brevicolle based on material collected by Dúsen. Today, this is species is considered a heterotypic synonym of E. henschenii ( Pessoa 2020) . Kraenzlin did not indicate in the protologue the herbarium where the type was deposited. Although the main herbarium of Kraenzlin was acquired by B ( Stafleu & Cowan 1976) and consequently destroyed during WWII (Merril 1943), we found three specimens of Dúsen material, two at S ( S 08-3348, S 08-3349) and one at HBG ( HBG 501631). We selected S 08-3348 as lectotype because it bears more flowers and fruits than the other specimens.
