Type :— BRAZIL. sine loco accurato, Mar 1914, fl., Goebel s.n. (holotype: B, destroyed). Lectotype designated here: illustration in Schlechter (1915), Orchis. Monatsschrift der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Orchideenkunde 9: “ Tab 1: 8–13’.

Notes: Epidendrum goebelii was based in a material collected in Brazil by Goebel without precise location and flowered at Munich (Nymphenburg) ( Schlechter 1915). The type specimen was destroyed in B during WWII ( Merrill 1943), and the species was never collected again, indicating it is probably extinct according IUCN (2024). The illustration provided in the protologue ( Schlechter 1915, tab. 11, image 8013) is designated as the lectotype.
