Valid name: Mops brachypterus (Peters, 1852)

Holotype: ZMB 536 View Materials , skin, and ZMB 85537 (old number = An 16356), skull, male; Mozambique Id., Mozambique; collected by W.C.H. Peters, between 1843 and 1847.

Comment: Thomas (1908) in describing Nyctinomus leonis selected as holotype a specimen of Nyctinomus brachypterus sensu Dobson 1896 (nec Peters 1852) and stated it to be smaller in skull length than true brachypterus (19.4 mm in leonis, 21.5 in brachypterus ).
