Domahovana icamiabas View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 –4, 15–34)

Type locality. Reserva Biológica do Cuieiras, ZF- 2 km 14, Manaus, Amazonas State, Brazil.

Diagnosis. Body dull yellow; mesonotum with transverse band adjacent to posterior margin of pronotum and pair of large maculae dark; scutellum orange or golden yellow ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 –4). Male sternite VIII (Fig. 17) with posterior margin broadly rounded. Male pygofer (Fig. 18) with narrowly rounded apex. Style (Figs 20–21), in lateral view, narrow along the entire length of blade; apical portion moderately curved dorsally. Aedeagus (Figs 22–23) atrium with two pairs of atrial processes, one dorsal spiniform pair lateral to base of shaft and another ventral digitiform pair (arrow in Fig. 23) between atrium and preatrium; shaft narrow and tubular. Ovipositor ( Figs 24 View FIGURES 24 –25) very elongated, about three times of pygofer length.

Total length. 7.6–8.0 mm (n = 9 males); 8.0–8.8 mm (n = 10 females).

Coloration. Dull yellow ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 –4). Crown mostly orange with one black spot behind each ocellus. Ocelli light red. Pronotum with one black spot behind each eye, adjacent to lateral margin; with median transverse U-shaped orange stripe at anterior half. Mesonotum with transverse band adjacent to posterior margin of pronotum and pair of large median maculae, dark. Scutellum orange or golden yellow. Forewing (Fig. 16) dull yellow, hyaline; with one black spot at base of clavus.

Male terminalia. Sternite VIII, in ventral view (Fig. 17), approximately 1.2 times longer than wide; posterior margin broadly rounded. Pygofer, in lateral view (Fig. 18), about two times longer than high; posterior margin narrowly rounded. Valve approximately twice as wide as long; anterior and posterior margins parallel; integument thickening medially indistinct. Subgenital plate (Figs 18–19) approximately 3 times longer than maximum width; apex acute. Style (Figs 20–21), in lateral view, narrow along the entire length of the blade, apical portion moderately curved dorsally. Aedeagus (Figs 22–23) with preatrium well developed, directed ventrally; atrium elongated and with ventral margin angled, with two pairs of processes, one spiniform laterally to base of shaft and another digitiform ventral, between atrium and preatrium; shaft tubular, narrow, and curved anterodorsally.

Female terminalia. Sternite VII ( Figs 24 View FIGURES 24 –25) approximately three times longer than previous sternite, not extending posteriorly to posterior margin of tergite VIII; in ventral view (Fig. 26), two times wider than long. Pygofer ( Figs 24 View FIGURES 24 –25, 27) with macrosetae distributed at apical third. First valvula (Figs 28–29) approximately 51 times longer than high. Second valvula (Fig. 31) approximately 50 times longer than high. Gonoplac (Figs 33–34) approximately 14 times longer than high; expanded region encompassing apical half.

Other characters of the external morphology and terminalia as in generic description.

Etymology. The species name, a noun in apposition, refers to female warrior tribe named “Icamiabas” in Amazonian mythology. According to reports, these women fought naked and lived in isolated groups without men. The word icamiaba means “the one that has no breast”, legend has it that, in order to become excellent archers, they tied their right breast with a band. The female specimen is quite distinctive; thus, the specific name exalts local culture and refers to a female group that gives its name to Amazonas State and also to the Amazon River.

Notes. Domahovana icamiabas sp. nov. can be distinguished from other Domahovana by the dull yellow coloration; aedeagus atrium well developed (moderately developed in other species) with ventral margin angled, and bearing two pairs of processes, one spiniform pair dorsally laterad to base of shaft and another digitiform pair ventrally; and aedeagus shaft narrow, tubular, without ventral lamellae (shaft more robust and with ventral lamellae in other species).
