Material examined. SMF 35038 (6: 6.8–16.5 cm); SMF 35040 (2: 29.5–30.4 cm); SMF 35041 (2: 8.3–9.0 cm); SMF 35042 (2: 6.4–7.1 cm); KAUMM 89 (6: 5.9–16.2 cm); KAUMM 90 (1: 21.9 cm); KAUMM 92 (2: 8.2–8.7 cm); KAUMM 93 (3: 5.9–6.7 cm).

Remarks. Johnson et al. (2001) reviewed the genus and recognized 4 subspecies in D. picta , but Heemstra & Heemstra (2004) elevated D. centurio (Cuvier, 1830) and D. punctata to species level using size of spots as diagnostic character. Here, we are following Johnson et al. (2001) in treating Red Sea D. picta punctata as subspecies.
