Cocos Island: Wafer Valley, 50 m, January 1902, H. Pittier 16229 (holotype US-00066212!, isotypes GH-00022192!, NY-148716!/-148717! [fragments of P], P-00642470!, US-01100696!).

Distribution and habitat: — Costa Rica, Cocos Island at 10–200 m in moist evergreen forest.

Remarks: — Maxon (1922: 43) mentions the sheet with the U.S. Catalog No. 578487 [=US-00066212] as type; it is also the only sheet that has been annoted by him as type. Maxon further states that “a second sheet of the type collection is at hand [= US-01100696], as also a specimen collected on Cocos Island in July 1899, by Snodgrass and Heller (no. 964)”, which are here continuedly regarded as isotype and paratype, respectively.
