Distribution and habitat: —Eastern Brazil at 180–1050 m in Mata Atântica.
Remarks: — Cyathea iheringii is the glabrescent extreme of a not fully understood species complex around C. phalerata Martius (1822: 146) , endemic to southeastern Brazil. The other, hairy and scaly extreme represents C. mexiae Copeland (1932: 30) .
