6. Senecio imbaburensis Sklená View in CoL ř & Marhold in Marhold & Sklená ř (2013: 59), replacement name. Culcitium sodiroi Hieronymus (1900: 63) , replaced name. Senecio sodiroi (Hieronymus) Cuatrecasas (1950: 45) , nom. illeg. (Art. 53.1), non Hieronymus (1900: 73). Lasiocephalus sodiroi (Hieronymus) Cuatrecasas (1990: 313) . Type:— ECUADOR. Chimborazo, Riobamba [below Chimborazo volcano], L. Sodiro s.n. (lectotype: P s.n. digital image!, designated by Cuatrecasas (1990: 313); isolectotype: QPLS s.n.!)
Nomenclatural notes: —The specimen designated by Cuatrecasas (1990) as lectotype of the name C. sodiroi Hieronymus (1900: 63) shows the locality “Riobamba”, which does not perfectly agree with the indicatio locotypica provided by Hieronymus: “Crescit in summis pascuis montium Imbabura et Chimborazo (S. sine numero)”. Although Cuatrecasas (1990) did not provide further information, it is important to note that the sheet contains mixed material. The small fragment on the left is the lectotype of this species and the sterile plant on the right corresponds to Monticalia rosmarinifolia ( Bentham 1845: 207) Jeffrey (73. 1992). During our revision of the Senecio material in Sodiro’s Herbarium (QPLS), we found a specimen that perfectly matches Hieronymus’ indication (i.e. “in pasc. m. Chimborazo ”), collected in October 1886. Oddly, this sheet contains the same mixed material than the sheet kept at P, and the respective species have the same size, habit, and phenology. On this basis, we consider both P and QPLS specimens as duplicates of the same collection, the latter being an isolectotype. The dissimilarity on the locality could have been done by mistake during the transcription of the new label in P, which is not original.
