Slender, erect, perennial herbs, up to 120 cm high, polycarpic. Root thickened, a creeping rootstock. Stem circular in transverse section, hollow except internodes, striate, glabrous, slightly ribbed under umbel, greenish or straw coloured, somewhat purplish at the base. Basal leaves lanceolate-oblong in outline, (5–)15–45 × 3–6 cm (incl. petiole), 1- pinnate; primary segments 2–3 pairs, basal primary segments petiolate, upper primary segments subsessile or sessile; terminal segments obovate in outline, (10–)15–40 × 15–25 mm, with crenate margin; petiole with small sheathing base, (8–) 10–25 cm, striate, hollow. Lower cauline leaves few, similar to basal leaves, but smaller. Middle cauline leaves 1-pinnate, ovate in outline, 8–15 × 1–3 cm with ± lanceolate sheathing petiole; segments subsessile or sessile with serrate margin. Upper cauline leaves much reduced, lobed or sheath-like. Umbels unequally 3–7-rayed, 1–4 cm long, sparsely hairy or glabrous. Bracts 1–2(–3), linear-lanceolate, 3–7 × 0.5–1 mm. Flowers (5–)10–15(–20) per umbellule; pedicel sparsely hairy or glabrous, unequal, 2–7 mm long. Bracteoles 3–5, linear, 2–4 × ca. 0.5 mm. Sepals obsolete. Petals white, strongly incurved in the distal part, oblong, 1–1.3 × 0.4–0.6 mm, glabrous. Filaments 1.2–2 mm long. Anthers yellowish, elliptic, 0.5–0.7 mm long. Stylopodium narrow conical. Styles reflexed, ca. 1.5 mm long. Fruit laterally compressed, glabrous. Mericarps oblong-elliptic, 5–6 × 1.5–2 mm, with distinctly projecting 5 ribs.
