Cremanthodium smithianum Handel-Mazzetti (1925: 14) View in CoL

Type:— CHINA. Yunnan, Lijiang, Yulungschan , Jun–Sept. 1914 –1916, H. Handel-Mazzetti 3635 (lectotype designated here: WU0059336 ; isolectotypes: K000802862 , S08-8610 ) .

Discussion:—In the protologue of Cremanthodium smithianum, Handel-Mazzetti (1925) cited an early photo (Vierhapper 1923: Tab. IV, fig. 3) of one specimen (H. Handel-Mazzetti 3635) of this species. In Vierhapper’s early publication, the specimen’s photo was only noted as “ Cremanthodium sp. (aff. bulbilliferum W. W. Sm.)”. This was also indicated by Good (1929). So there was no basionym for the name C. smithianum . Handel-Mazzetti (1925) cited several specimens, including H. Handel-Mazzetti 3635, H. Handel-Mazzetti 4729 (from Dschungdien, Yunnan), H. Handel-Mazzetti 8358 (from Yungning, Yunnan), G. Forrest 6535 (from Lijiang, Yunnan), G. Forrest 6613 (from Lijiang, Yunnan), all being syntypes of C. smithianum . Here we designate H. Handel-Mazzetti 3635 as the lectotype because it most closely conforms to the original description.
