Salve & Chaugule 2001, p. 37; Chaugule 2004, p. 68.

Distribution in India: Maharashtra (Vashisti River near Chiplun, Ratnagiri district, on submerged concrete bridge pillars of swiftly flowing river; Konkan in two fast flowing streams).

Notes: Based on a global sampling of species of Compsopogon, Necchi et al. (2013) and Rintoul et al. (1999) concluded that Compsopogon is the only genus recognizable in the family, with only one species ( C. caeruleus ), which has a low genetic variation. Nan et al. (2016b) also remarked that C. caeruleus is highly conserved genetically over a long geological time scale, as such, all the records from India of Compsopogon under eight different names and a single record of Compsopogonopsis are treated as the single monospecific binomial Compsopogon caeruleus following Necchi et al. (2013, 2016).
