Jatropha horrida Müll.Arg., Linnaea View in CoL 34: 210 (1865).— Cnidoscolus horridus (Müll.Arg.) Pax & K.Hoffm., Nat. Pflanzenfam. View in CoL ed. 2, 19c: 164 (1931). Type :— BRAZIL. Without locality, without date, F. Sellow s.n. (lectotype G-00434360!, designated here). The holotype in B (Field Museum Berlin Negative # 5391!) was probably destroyed; here we designated the G specimen as lectotype .

Jatropha ferox Müll.Arg., Fl. Bras. View in CoL 11(2): 497 (1874). Type:— BRAZIL. Espírito Santo: Pedra d‘Agoa , without date, M.A. Wied-Neuwied s.n. (holotype G-00434359!; isotype BR-0000006595050!). These collections are possibly isotypes of C. aculeatissimus View in CoL .

Distribution:— Brazil (microendemic).

Notes:— Moraes et al. (2014) state that Jatropha aculeatissima was lectotypified by Fernández Casas (2002a). However, Fernández-Casas does not clearly use the word “ lectotype,” nor does he state “here designated” or an equivalent. Thus, according to ICN articles 7.10 and 9.23, this lectotypification is not valid.
