Cheilanthes scariosa (Sw.) C.Presl, Reliq. Haenk. View in CoL 1: 65. 1825.
Range: —Northern Peru to Bolivia ( CH, CO, PO).
Ecology: —Rare (known from three collections); saxicolous on rocks and cliffs, often on calcareous substrates; 2550–4100 m.
Notes: —Segments rounded, densely scaly abaxially, glabrous adaxially (although the upper surface may be partly hidden by the scales borne on the abaxial blade surface); rhizome scales concolorous, red-brown. Cheilanthes arequipensis (Maxon) R.M.Tryon & A.F.Tryon , from central Peru to northern Chile and northwestern Argentina, is expected to occur in Bolivia. It differs from C. scariosa by its oblong segments, long petioles (usually longer than the blade), and mostly clathrate and roughened abaxial blade scales.
