5.2.1. Myrcia celaenensis E.Lucas & K.Samra View in CoL (in Campbell et al. 2019). Calyptranthes nigrescens B. Holst (2002: 138) . Type:— VENEZUELA. Amazonas, Río Pasimoni , 20 October 1986, Stergios 9529 (holotype PORT29526!; isotypes FLAS203459!, MO!, NY!, SEL002934!, US00811125!) .
Myrcia celaenensis View in CoL was first described in Calyptranthes (Holst 2022) View in CoL , the genus where nearly all species of Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes were described. However, recent phylogenetic studies show that calyptrate flowers can also occur in Myrcia sect. Aulomyrcia , such as Myrcia florifera View in CoL ( McVaugh 1958a: 72) Gaem & E.Lucas (2020: 298) ( Wilson et al. 2016). Besides phylogenetic placement, some morphological features such as the absence of sympodial branching, inflorescence structure (usually sympodial in Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes ), floral bud morphology (usually turbinate in M. sect. Calyptranthes View in CoL ), and an irregularly tearing calyptra are indicative of a group of calyptrate species that belong to M. sect. Aulomyrcia . Myrcia celaenensis View in CoL possesses these features and is therefore removed from Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes to sect. Aulomyrcia .
