ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1878a: 166.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Amboina [on Ambon Island (= Maluku Islands)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): Amboina 1873 , O. Beccari / Typus / Brachytarsina amboinensis Rnd. / amboinensis Rndn. / Brachytarsina amboinensis Rndn. , Typus!

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Maa 1977c: 433).

REMARKS: Rondani (1878a: 166) described Brachytarsina amboinensis from a single specimen without specifying its sex: “ Specimen unicum observavi [I observed a single specimen]”, collected by O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 194) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 51) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG.
