The use of rufipes by De Geer was a misidentifications of signatus according to Tottenham, 1949: 381, 425 and Pope, 1977: 33. Although neither Tottenham nor Pope specified other works in which rufipes was misidentified, virtually all authors after Erichson, 1839a, 1839b, cited De Geer as the author of the species or evidently used the generally accepted application of the name (ie. De Geer’s). That being the case then, all those uses were also misidentifications. Among the articles published between 1774 and 1839, which concept of rufipes was applied is not always clear. Those that seemed to clearly refer to rufipes Linné are listed with that name, those that referred to rufipes sensu De Geer are listed with signatus as misidentifications]; characters; notes).
