Type:— CHINA. Jiangsu: Nanjing, Xuanwuhu, 28 October 1951, C. T. Yang 20578 (holotype NF-08300375!, isotypes NF-08300304!, NF-08300306!, NF-08300311!, NF-08300331!, NF-08300333!).

Paratypes:— CHINA. Jiangsu: Nanjing, Xuanwuhu , 6 May 1951, C. T. Yang 20394 (NF-08300301!, NF-08300308!, NF-08300309!, NF-08300312!, NF-08300329!) ; same locality, 15 May 1956, C. T. Yang 21484 (NF-08300307!, NF-08300338!, NF-08300339!) .

Three gatherings, C. T. Yang 20394, C. T. Yang 21484 and C. T. Yang 20578, were designated as type in the original protologue ( Cheng et al. 1963). Here we designate one of the sheets of C. T. Yang 20578 as the holotype. The validating description and diagnosis were previously published by Cheng & Chu in Cheng et al. (1963: 13). Li & Gilbert (2010) treated the name as a heterotypic synonym of Bischofia polycarpa ( Léveillé 1912: 296) Airy Shaw (1972: 271) in the Flora of China.
