Description of species

( Figs. 2, 3, 6 View FIGURES 2–8 , 9–15 View FIGURES 9–15 )

Male. General habitus dark brown. Head ochraceous, frontoclypeus and clypellus dark brown but paler dorsally and along laterofrontal suture, lora and genae ochraceous. Pronotum & mesonotum black. Forewing brown venation dark brown area between veins pale yellow. Hind femur with apices, tibiae and tarsal segments black, setae on hind tibia brown to light brown ( Figs. 2, 3 View FIGURES 2–8 ).

Head large 0.8x width of pronotum, anterior margin obtusely rounded; crown narrow produced beyond anterior margin of eyes, ocelli prominent situated near anterior margin of crown, eyes large, elongate ovoid occupying about 2/3 entire dorsal area of head ( Fig. 2–3 View FIGURES 2–8 ); clypeus long and narrow, lateral margin expanded apically, clypellus expanded apically ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 2–8 ). Pronotum large, median length 1.3x length of crown, surface roughly knobbed; mesonotum and scutellum combined length 1.8x length of pronotum; forewing elongate narrow, apex narrowly rounded veins distinct, appendix well developed. Hind femoral macrosetae 2+2+1.

Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view triangular, with caudodorsal digitate process, and long, with irregular serration on ventral margin, dorsal margin glabrous, caudoventral process with basal spine ( Figs. 9–10 View FIGURES 9–15 ). Subgenital plate broad at base, more or less of uniform width throughout length, apex rounded with fine serrations ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9–15 ). Style broad at base, apophysis long, apex rounded ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 9–15 ). Connective longer than broad ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 9–15 ). Aedeagus with shaft slightly sinuate basally; dorsal margin with short, hornlike process near base; short serrated, subapical flange present on left side; gonopore at midlength of shaft on left lateral margin (Figs. 14,15).

Measurements. Male 7.0− 7.3 mm long, 1.8 mm wide across eyes and 2.1 mm wide across posterolateral angles of pronotum.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE ♂, INDIA: Arunachal Pradesh: Thinsa , 26°55′52″N, 95°32′05″E, 1583m, 30.vi.2018, Sweep net, Stuti ( NPC) GoogleMaps . PARATYPE: 2 ♂, same data as holotype ( NPC) GoogleMaps .

Etymology. The species is named for the mountain range “ patkai ” in the place of collection

Remarks. B. patkaensis sp. nov. resembles B. nigribacka Fan & Li in general habitus but differs in having the pygofer with the caudoventral process irregularly serrated on the ventral margin and the dorsal margin glabrous (in B. nigribacka Fan & Li the caudoventral process is entirely glabrous and slender) and gonopore far below the serrate flange of the shaft (above the serrate flange in B. nigribacka ).
