Distribution:— RUSSIA, Buryatia:Bichursky distr., Dzhidinsky distr.,Ivolginsky distr., Kudarinsky distr., Kyachtinsky distr., Mukhorshibirsky distr., Selenginsky distr., Tarbagataisky distr., Zaigraevsky distr.; Tranbaikal Region: Chita distr., Zabaikalsky distr.
b. Atraphaxis davurica var. chikoensis Yurtseva & Mavrodiev , var. nov.
Type: — Khentei-Chikoy Highlands, rocky outcrops in the vicinity of the village Anagustay, 08.1960, Maximova s.n. (LE!, holotype) ( Fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ).
Shrub 30–50 cm tall, with erect, straight unarmed shoots covered with dark-gray, almost black bark and bright-green broadly or oblong elliptical leaf blades, ochreas 5–6 mm long.
Etymology:— Named after the river Chikoy.
Note: — Atraphaxis davurica var. chikoensis is possibly a species derived within A. davurica , endemic to Khentei- Chikoy Highlands, but until seeing the ripe fruits we treat it as a variety of A. davurica . It has similar shape and size of the perianth but differs by dark-gray bark and broadly elliptical leaf blades with leaf ratio 3–5.
Ecology: —Rocks, steep cliffs.
Distribution: — RUSSIA, Buryatia: Kyachta distr., valleys of the Kudara and Chikoy rivers and Khentei-Chikoy Highlands; Chita region at the border with Mongolia.
