Notes — Müller-Argoviensis (1860a) indicated the gathering Riedel 1091 in the prologue of A. dispermum but did not cite in which herbarium the type would be deposited. Thus, we selected a specimen with flowers and follicles from this collection as the lectotype of A. dispermum (G barcode G00169291) (ICN article 9.3; Turland et al. 2018). Regarding A. ellipsocarpum , Duarte (1968) indicated the gathering Duarte 9664 from the herbarium RB in the protologue. Based on this information and the materials analyzed, we consider that the three sheets with this information in RB (RB barcodes 00535036, 00813265, and 00813266) belong to a single specimen mounted on three sheets since they possess a single original label in common, received the same voucher number, and are physically kept together (ICN article 8.3, Ex. 9; Turland et al. 2018). Aspidosperma ellipsocarpum and A. dispermum possess leaves with crenulate margin, craspedodromous venation, and longer petioles (> 2 cm long), flowers with corolla lobes equal to or longer than the tube (1.6×), and sessile or subsessile and broadly fusiform follicles. Based on these characteristics, we consider A. ellipsocarpum as a synonym of A. dispermum .
