Asilus therevinus Rondani, 1851
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1851: 369.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ regioni equatoriali dell’America, nelle vicinanze del Rio Napo [ Equatorial regions of ( South ) America, mainly in the vicinity of Napo River]” ( Rondani 1851: 357) .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Asilidae View in CoL ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 91, Papavero 2009: 140).
REMARKS: Rondani (1851: 369) described Asilus therevinus from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by Osculati (1850) during his journey through equatorial South America. Osculati (1850: 240) named but did not describe the species. Leonardi et al. (1995: 148) and Mazzotti (2011: 166) reported the Osculati collection in Milan as destroyed. Papavero (2009: 140) reported type material as being in the MZUN; however, we could not locate any type specimens there in this study.
