Aralichus araraunae Atyeo, 1988
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Ara ararauna (Linnaeus) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Panama (Darien) and Colombia (Río Magdalena) (Atyeo 1988). Later on, it was recollected from the same host from Panama (Chapo), Ecuador (Río Pastaza), Bolivia (La Paz) and Guyana (Albary River) ( Atyeo & Pérez 1990).

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Aratinga p. pertinax (Lesson) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Curaçao, ex A. p. aeruginosa (Linnaeus) from Venezuela (Zulia), ex A. p. lehmanni Dugand from Colombia (Dept. Meta, Carimagua), ex A. p. ocularis (Sclater and Salvin) from Panama (Veraguas, Chiriqui), A. p. surinama Zimmer & Phelps from Venezuela (Amacuro), ex A. p. tortugensis (Cory) from Venezuela (Nueva Esparta), ex A. p. venezuelae Zimmer and Phelps from Venezuela (Aragua), ex A. p. xanthogenia (Bonaparte) from Bonaire Island, with additional material ex A. nana astec (Souancé) from Mexico (Yucatán, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Chiapas), Guatemala and Costa Rica, ex A. n. nana (Vigor) from Jamaica (Trelawny Parish, St. Catherine Parish), and ex A. aurea (Gmelin) from Brazil (Para) ( Atyeo & Pérez 1990). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Aralichus canestrinii (Trouessart, 1885)
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Ara macao (Linnaeus) (as Arara macao ) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from “l’Amérique Méridionale” ( Trouessart 1885b). Later on, it was recolected from the same host from Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia (Atyeo 1988).

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Ara chloropterus (Gray) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Venezuela (Tachira, Delta Amacuro), Colombia (Dept. Arauca, Río Arauca, Bojabá; Dept. Antioquia, Río Cauca, Puerto Valdivia, Cuturú), Bolivia (El Beni) and Brazil (Mato Grosso) (Atyeo 1988). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Aralichus inermis (Mégnin and Trouessart, 1884)
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Pionites leucogaster (Kuhl) (as Caica leucogaster ) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Brazil and Guyana ( Mégnin & Trouessart 1884b). Later on, it was recollected ex P. l. leucogaster (Kuhl) from Brazil (Para), ex P. l. xanthomerius (Sclater) from Brazil (Amazonas) and Peru (Loreto), ex P. m. melanocephala (Linnaeus) from French Guiana (Oyapock) and Venezuela (Bolívar), and ex P. m. pallidus (Berlepsch) from Colombia (Dept. Caquetá) and Brazil ( Atyeo & Pérez 1990).

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Leptosittaca branickii Berlepsch and Stolzmann ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Peru (Huanuco, Junin), Colombia (Dept. Nariño, Llorente), and Ecuador (Imbabura) ( Atyeo & Pérez 1990). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Diopsittaca nobilis cumanensis (Lichtenstein) (as Ara nobilis cumanensis ) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Brazil (Maranhão), ex D. n. nobilis (Linnaeus) (as Ara n. nobilis ) from Venezuela (Bolivar) and Brazil (Amazonas, Espirito Santo), with additional material ex D. n. longipennis (Neumann) (as Ara n. longipennis) from Brazil (Goias) (Atyeo 1988). Later on, it was recollected ex Aratinga acuticaudata haemorrhous Spix from Brazil (Mato Grosso) and Venezuela, (Nueva Esparta), ex A. a. acutidaudata (Vieillot) from Bolivia (Santa Cruz), ex A. c. cloroptera (Souancé) from Dominican Republic (Samaná) and Colombia (Dept. Arauca, Río Arauca), ex A. erythrogenys (Lesson) from Ecuador (Guayas, Duran, Manabi) and Peru (Tumbes, Piura), ex A. euops (Wagler) from Cuba (Oriente, Camagüey), ex A. finschi (Salvin) from Guatemala (San Lucas), Nicaragua (Chinandega), El Salvador, Panama (Boquete), ex A. h. holochlora (Sclater) from Mexico (Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Chiapas), ex A. h. rubritorquis (Sclater) from Nicaragua (Jinotega), Guatemala (Zacapa) and Honduras (Copan), ex A. h. brevipes (Lawrence) from Mexico (Socorro Island), ex. This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Remark. Although Aratinga c. chloroptera was mentioned as a host from Colombia by Atyeo & Pérez (1990), this subspecies is only definitely known in the Caribbean, Hispaniola Island ( Clements et al. 2011); therefore actual collections were probably made from another Aratinga sp.
Aralichus ognorhynchi Atyeo and Pérez, 1990
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Ognorhynchus icterotis (Massena and Souancé) ( Psittaciformes , Psittacidae ) from Colombia (Dept. Tolima, Río Toche; Dept. Cauca, west of Popayán; Dept. Nariño, Ricaurte) and Brazil ( Atyeo & Pérez 1990). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Remark. According to Clements et al. (2011), O. icterotis is the only member of its genus and is distributed only in the Andes of Colombia and Ecuador; therefore the record from Brazil was probably made from another genus or it is a museum contamination.
Aralichus porrectus (Mégnin and Trouessart, 1884)
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Pionites melanocephalus (Linnaeus) (as Amazona melanocephala ) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) and Pionus menstruus (Linnaeus) (as Amazona menstrua ) from “l’Amérique Méridionale” ( Mégnin & Trouessart 1884b). Later on, it was recollected ex Brotogeris jugularis (Müller) from Colombia ( Favette & Trouessart 1904), and from the same host from Panama (Darien), Guatemala, Nicaragua (Lago Nicaragua), Costa Rica (Tambor) and Colombia (Dept. Magdalena, Bonda) ( Atyeo 1989a).
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Ara severus (Linnaeus) (as Ara severa castaneifrons ) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Colombia (Dept. Putumayo, San Antonio) and Brazil (Para) (Atyeo 1988). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Material examined. Ex Amazona farinosa (Boddaert) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ): 1 female, Dept. Valle del Cauca: Buenaventura, Bahía Málaga, 18 March 1986, coll. J.H. Gamboa, UV No. 5640.
