Apiomerus elegans was described from the Amazonian region of Brazil (“Madeira” river) ( Distant 1903), with further records from the same region of this country only ( Costa Lima et al. 1951; Gil-Santana et al. 2003). The pale yellowish to whitish hind lobe of the pronotum ( Figs. 3-5 ) is remarkable in this large species. The reddish markings on femora and tibiae ( Figs. 3, 5 ) are variably absent in some individuals ( Fig. 4 ) as recorded by Costa Lima et al. (1951).

Distribution. Brazil, Peru (new record).
