Polytaenium brasilianum (Desv.) Benedict, Bull. Torrey Bot. View in CoL Club 38(4): 169. 1911.
= Antrophyum brasilianum (Desv.) C.Chr., Index Filic. 59. 1905.
Range:— Northern Venezuela; Ecuador to Bolivia (CO); Brazil.
Ecology: —Rare (known from 2 collections); pendent epiphyte in humid forests; ca. 1300 m.
Notes: —Differs from Polytaenium guayanense in the more oblanceolate blades and more strongly winged petioles; in addition, it has abaxially somewhat darkened costae, and broader, less attenuate, and less toothed rhizome scales. From P. cajenense it differs in the superfical sori, lighter costae, and less thick texture. Tryon & Stolze (1989) subsumed Antrophyum brasilianum under Polytaenium (as Antrophyum ) cajenense , but we believe they are quite different species.
