Status at New Ireland. Originally described as Lutjanus percula from Port Praslin, New Ireland by Lacepède (1802: 194, 239–240); reported from New Ireland by Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1830a: 397–398), based on MNHN material, from Port Praslin, New Ireland as Amphiprion tunicatus by Lesson (1831: 192–194, poissons pl. 25, fig. 3), and from St. Mathias and Kavieng, New Ireland by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 68). A specimen photographed in Kavieng region on 5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey ( Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 9, 14); specimens photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng region by Dietmar Amon; a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–16 m depth, St. KR98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 3, 4.—General distribution: New Guinea east to Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in coastal reefs, lagoons and seaward coral reefs, commensal with sea anemones, 1–15 m depth. Marine.
