Euseius papayana ( Van der Merwe ) ( Fig. 31 View FIGURE 31 )

Amblyseius papayana Van der Merwe, 1965: 57

FEMALE (Specimens measured – Kenya: 2).

Dorsum Dorsal shield with few lateral striae anterior to s4 321(311332) long, 223(216230) wide. Setae j1 42(4143), j3 84(7889), j4 8, j5 7(58), j6 and J2 11, J5 5, z2 35(3238), z4 123(122124), z5 8, Z4 134(127140), Z5 115(111119), s4 151, S2 34(32 35), S4 28(2730), S5 38(3541), r3 23(2225), R1 15(1416). All setae smooth, except Z5 which are serrate. Differently from other known species in the genus, E. papayana does not have setae Z1, and thus its idiosomal setal pattern is 10A:8A/JV3:ZV.

Peritreme Almost reaching level of z4.

Venter Ventral shields smooth. Distances between ST1ST3 62, ST2ST2 66(6568), ST5ST5 78. With 1 pair of metapodal shields. Ventrianal shield 86 long, 59 wide at ZV2 level and 70 wide at anus level.

Spermatheca Calyx 26(2527) long, filamentous; minor duct proeminent; atrium small.

Legs Macrosetae sharptipped: SgeI and SgeII 30, SgeIII 38, StiIII 32, SgeIV 62(59 65), StiIV 49, StIV 119(116122).

MALE (Specimens measured – Kenya: 1).

Dorsum Dorsal shield as in female, 248 long and 151 wide. Setae j1 32, j3 54, j4 and j5 5, j6 and J2 8, J5 3, z2 30, z4 68, z5 5, Z4 76, Z5 62, s4 97, S2 22, S4 16, S5 19, r3 15, R1 8. Dorsal setae smooth, except Z5 which are serrate.

Peritreme Reaching level between z4 and s4.

Venter Ventrianal shield 115 long, 100 wide at anterior corners.

Legs Macrosetae sharptipped, except that on genu IV which has a small terminal knob: SgeI and SgeII 24, SgeIII and StiIII 30, SgeIV and StiIV 46, StIV 84.
