Distribution and habitat: — Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and Costa Rica at 50–870 m in moist lowland forests.

Remarks: —Reports of this species from farther south are probably based entirely on similar but clearly different species, like C. darienensis or C. tortuosa Moran (1991: 99) . The lectotypes of Alsophila chnoodes H.Christ and A. crassifolia H.Christ are the specimens previously treated as holotypes at P because they bear the handwritten annotation “n.sp.”, which the respective isolectotypes at P lack.
