Distribution and habitat: —Eastern Brazil at 40–1050 m in Mata Atântica.
Remarks: — Lellinger (1987) created the new combination Cyathea axillaris for this species, apparently unaware that Alsophila leucolepis ( Martius 1834) is the earliest legitimate name. It supersedes Phegopteris axillaris (Fée 1852) , which acts as new name for the earlier illegitimate homonym Polypodium axillare ( Raddi 1819) . This makes Cyathea leucofolis the combination of priority in the genus ( Domin 1929a).
