DESCRIPTION.

♂: length: 11.5 – 13 mm, breadth: 5 – 6 mm; ratio LB/lB (n = 17): 1.83 (1.75 – 1.88).

Elongate and laterally parallel, dorsally flat, broader in middle of elytra; shining yellowish with apical teeth of protibia, margins of scutellum, and tarsi reddish brown; reflexed part of clypeus brownish black.

Head (eye to eye) broad, clypeus rounded and sinuate in middle, entirely and strongly reflexed, totally covered with tubercles; vertex punctate.

Antennae 10­ segmented, with club longer than funicle.

Pronotum rectangular, broader than long LP/lP (n = 17): 0.50 (0.41 – 0.54); sides regularly rounded from base to apex; all margins carinate, anterior angles slightly projecting and reaching posterior margin of eyes; punctate.

Scutellum subtriangular, punctate.

Elytra longer than broad LE/lE (n = 17): 1.40 (1.39 – 1.47), epipleura complete; costae slightly elevated; intervals strongly punctate.

Humeral and apical calli slightly marked.

Pygidium laterally rounded, carinate, slightly projecting postero­ventrally and not surpassing apex of elytra.

Abdomen concave; short process at base of prosternum rounded.

Protibia tridentate, pro­ and mesotarsal larger claw cleft; larger claw of metatarsus twice as long as outer one.

Upper and underside covered with short white, decumbent setae, erected on canthus and on disc of pygidium.

Aedeagus: parameres dorsally triangular, base with a long rounded process, apex sinuate in middle; ventrally straight (in lateral view).

♀: length: 11.5 – 13 mm, breadth: 5.5 – 6.5 mm

Differs from ♂ by: body laterally more convex; club of antennae shorter; abdomen convex; pygidium projecting postero­ventrally and apical tooth of protibia rounded.

DERIVATIO NOMINIS. Dedicated to the memory of Hans Joseph Bredo, Director of the International Red Locust Control Service, (Abercorn, Northern Rhodesia) who collected all the specimens.
