Adiantum tomentosum Klotzsch, Linnaea View in CoL 18: 553. 1844 [1845].

Range: — Colombia to Guianas and Bolivia (BE, LP, PA); Paraguay and Brazil.

Ecology: —Uncommon, terrestrial in lowland wet forests; 100–600 m.

Notes: —Distinguished from similar 2-pinnate species in lacking idioblasts, having more numerous (30–35) pairs of imbricate pinnules per pinna, and rachises lacking scales, but puberulent adaxially, hairs less than 0.1 mm, abaxially glabrous; perhaps related to A. macrocladum . Rhizomes stout, short-creeping; blades with 4–6 pairs of lateral pinnae; pinnules entire, 2–2.5 times longer than wide, reduced toward pinna bases, margins of sterile pinnules serrate, glabrous on both surfaces; indusia glabrous.
