[ Helicteres] ( Amastra) rugulosavar. similaris Pease, 1870: 96. CURRENT TAXONOMIC STATUS. — Amastrinae, Amastra( CyclamastraPilsbry & Vanatta, 1905). Valid species.
TYPE MATERIAL. — Paralectotypes MNHNIM-2000-30833 (2 spms, 1 of which in fragments). TYPELOCALITY. — “[Waimea] Kauai” [ sic].
REMARKS Considered by Pease as a variety of a species of “ Hélictères” (i.e. genus Helicteres, though the formal genus name was not used and it is therefore placed in square brackets above) in the subgenus Amastra(see introductory text regarding species of Pease). The original description was not explicitly based on only a single specimen but neither does it imply the existence of syntypes. The species was not listed by Fischer-Piette (1950: 149, 150). A lectotype(MCZ 45253) was validly designated and illustrated by Johnson (1994: 24, pl. 2, fig. 11), who also listed paralectotypes(MCZ 58936, MCZ 298498), and restricted the type locality as above. A label associated with the MNHN specimens indicates that they were received from Pease in 1869, and they are here treated as paralectotypes.
