Type material. Holotype: AUSTRALIA (QUEENSLAND):♂, two labels: "MEQ:22°36'Sx149°14'E / MtBluffkin,7kmNNE,on / road,brigalow,Intercept / 16Dec1999- 22Mar2000/ Monteith. 160m 9230" [white, printed], " CEPHENNOMICRUS/ monteithim. / P. Jałoszyński, '18 / HOLOTYPUS" [red, printed] (QM). Paratypes(3 ♂♂): same data as for holotype (QM, cPJ).
Diagnosis.BL 1.05–1.13 mm; body moderately stout, EI 1.14–1.21; all antennomeres elongate; antennal club trimerous but antennomere IX relatively narrow, so that club appears dimerous; pronotal disc with conspicuously coarse granulation, elytra with much smoother surface; inner pair of pronotal antebasal pits connected by deep groove; frons in males modified, with a pair of pits connected by a deep, asetose transverse impression; aedeagus moderately slender, with distal portion of flagellum coiled.
Description.Body of male ( Fig. 13) moderately stout and strongly convex, uniformly reddish brown; setae on head, pronotum and elytra long, suberect and silverish, distinct at magnification 40 ×. BL 1.0 5– 1.13 mm(mean 1.11 mm). Head ( Fig. 14) broadest at large, strongly convex and coarsely faceted eyes, HL 0.13–0.15 mm(mean 0.13 mm), HW 0.28 mm; vertex weakly convex; frons modified, with a pair of lateral pits connected by a deep transverse groove; supraantennal tubercles weakly elevated. Punctures on head dorsum dense but very small and shallow, inconspicuous; setae dense and short, on median impression absent. Each mandible ( Fig. 15) with conspicuous dorsal tooth. Antennae slender, with trimerous club, but antennomere IX is narrow and club appears dimerous, AnL 0.53–0.55 mm(mean 0.54 mm), all antennomeres elongate (IX and X indistinctly), antennomere XI about as long as IX and X combined, about twice as long as broad. Pronotum subtrapezoidal, broadest near anterior fourth; PL 0.33–0.35 mm(mean 0.34 mm), PW 0.40–0.43 mm(mean 0.42 mm); anterior and posterior margins weakly arcuate, sides rounded in anterior third and nearly straight in posterior half; anterior corners broadly rounded, posterior corners strongly obtuse-angled and blunt; base with two lateral pairs of small but distinct pits, inner pair connected by a deep transverse groove; lateral pronotal carinae indistinctly serrate. Punctures on pronotal disc obscured by dense and coarse granulation covering uniformly pronotal disc ( Fig. 13). Elytra oval, broadest distinctly anterior to middle; EL 0.60–0.65 mm(mean 0.64 mm), EW 0.53–0.55 mm(mean 0.54 mm), EI 1.14–1.21; humeral calli distinct; apices separately rounded. Punctures on elytra dense but very small, diffuse, superficial; elytral setae directed posterolaterad. Legs moderately long and slender, unmodified. Aedeagus ( Figs 16–19) elongate; AeL 0.20 mm; median lobe in ventral view with elongate proximal capsular part and sharply delimited, much shorter subrectangular distal part, its apical margin broadly rounded; diaphragm distinct, circular, sub-basally on ventral wall; flagellum with several coils in subapical region; each paramere with one long apical and one short subapical seta. Female. Unknown.
Distribution( Fig. 123). Queensland.
Etymology.This species is dedicated to Geoff Monteith, the collector of the typeseries.
Remarks.This is the most conspicuous of all Australian species of Cephennomicrus; the large body, deep transverse impression on the frons, coarsely sculptured pronotum and elytral setae directed posterolaterad allow for unambiguous identification of C. monteithi.
