[ G00464280(fragment)]).   Distribution and habitat:— Brazil( Minas Gerais, known only from the Pico de Itambé). Campo rupestre; 1880–2052 m.  Taxonomic notes:—The presence of an inconspicuous obtriangulate leaf sheath helps distinguish this species from  Lychnophora pinaster(which has similar leaves but without leaf sheath). Coile & Jones (1981)excluded  L. brunioidesfrom  Lychnophoraand considered it a member of  Piptolepis. However, the latter genus is defined by its pad-like leaf sheath and caducous phyllaries, characters absent from  L. brunioides.
