Distribution. Western Atlantic: USA(Florida), Cuba, Gulf of Mexico, Panamaand Brazil(Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná) ( Christoffersen 1998; Soledade & Almeida 2013; present study).
Remarks. The present material is the first record of Alpheus thomasifor the Brazilian states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. This colourful snapping shrimp, easily identifiable in the field by its diagnostic colour pattern ( Fig. 4, see also Hendrix & Gore 1973; Anker et al.2008), appears to be relatively widespread in Brazil, although localised and not very common.
