COMMENTS: Mayr started his collecting expedition to the Herzog mountain range in Malalo near Salamoa [Salamaua], on 7 May 1929. The village Dawong ( 1400ma.s.l.) was the main base on this trip between 10 May and 3 June 1929. Mayr left Salamoa on 12 June 1929(see Mayr 1931: 640–646, Haffer 1997: 447). Mayr (1931)accidentally referred to the male bird as a female; Mayr number 1474, the holotype, is a male bird on the label. Frith and Frith (2004: 277)subsequently referred to the wrong specimen as holotype.
