Australia, Queensland: 1 ♂, 15°10’S/ 145°07’E, 3.5 kmSW by S of Mount Baird, 4–v–1981, D.H. Colless( ANIC). Description. Male( Figs. 11–14). Head.Largely, including rostrum, grey; palpus brown. Antenna greyish brown to yellowish brown, 0.6–0.7 mmlong; pedicel at least as long as flagellomeres; f1 ovate/spherical, f3 about twice as long as wide; verticils longer than flagellomeres; some moderately long and dense pubescence. Thorax.Largely grey, four stripes on prescutum, four patches and midline on postscutum distinctly darker, two small spots at the frontal face of prescutum and a spot in each humeral pit black. Legs with coxa and trochanter greyish yellow to yellowish brown and remainder pale brownish grey. Wing.Veins R 4and R 5apically distinctly diverging; vein A 2moderately long, largely straight, ending, with tip rather steep to almost perpendicular to wing margin, mostly very close to level origin of Rs; anal angle distinct. Halter brownish to greyish yellow. Abdomen.Largely greyish brown. Terminalia.Segment 9 longer than wide. Gonocoxite more than three times as long as wide. Outer gonostylus markedly less than half as long as gonocoxite, apically thicker than basally and widely rounded posteromedially; inner gonostylus about 2/3 as long as, and markedly wider than, outer gonostylus and produced into a rather wide, short posteromedial cone. Interbase pointed, rather short and straight, somewhat widened subapically. Aedeagus with apex truncate, about as long as rather bulky vesica and distinctly longer than short rod-like apodeme. Dimensions.Wing length 3.1–3.5 mm. Female( Figs. 15, 16). Head, Thorax, Wingand Abdomen.Much as in male. Terminalia.Ovipositor with cerci very long and thin, slightly and evenly curved. Dimensions.Wing length 3.0– 3.4 mm. Distribution.Northern: Northern Territory, Queensland( Map 1). Etymology. From Borroloola, the typelocality in Northern Territory; to be treated as a noun in apposition. Discussion. The male of R.( R.) borroloolastands out from all consubgeneric species known from Australiaby a narrow (longer than wide) segment 9, long and narrow (three times as long as wide) gonocoxites and by the almost straight subapically only slightly widened interbases. The very short (ca 0.5 mm) antennae with flagellomere 1 ovate/subspherical and the strongly developed anal angle (cell A 2deep) will probably help to identify even the female of R.( R.) borroloola.
