Hydaticus riehli Wehncke 1876: 195; Nilsson & Hájek 2019: 96.
Typelocality. Cuba.
Comments. Two species of Hydaticusoccur in Cuba: H. bimarginatusand H. rimosus(Megna & Sánchez- Fernández 2016). Morphologically both of these species are fairly similar. Indeed, Roughley & Pengelly (1981)postulated that they are sister species. Another species, Hydaticus riehli Wehncke, 1876was reported as endemic to Cuba. The status of this species remains however doubtful ( Nilsson & Hájek 2019). Despite thorough efforts, we were unable to locate any specimen in the museum in Paris which could belong to the typeseries. It is noteworthy, however, that several specimens of Thermonectus basillarisof the CZCTR collection in Santiago de Cubawere previously identified as Thermonectus riehli.
