Type Locality: Venezuela, Amazonas, 40-50 km (by road) NE Puerto Ayacucho.

Vernacular Names: Fernandez's Sword-nosed Bat.

Distribution: S Venezuela.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Vulnerable.

Discussion: orinocensis species group. Known only from the type locality. Some specimens previously referred to this species actually represent inusitata ; see Handley and Ochoa (1997).
