Bidens cernua Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 832. 1753.

“Habitat in Europa ad fontes & fossas.” RCN: 6021.

Lectotype (Mesfin Tadesse in Jarvis & Turland in Taxon 47: 355. 1998): Herb. Linn. No. 975.5 (LINN).

Current name: Bidens cernua L. (Asteraceae).

Note: Sherff (in Publ. Field Mus. Nat. Hist., Bot. Ser. 16: 302. 1937) stated “Type specimen: A good specimen exists in the Linnean Herbarium [presumably Herb. Linn. 975.5 LINN] but the name Bidens cernua traces back by synonymy directly to Caesalpinus 16: 488, cap. XVII”. However, the Caesalpinus plate is not cited in the synonymy of Linnaeus’ name and is ineligible as type.
