Ochraethes nevadensis View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 9–12 View FIGURES 9–14. 9–12 )

Description. Male. Integument mostly black; anteclypeus and labrum brown; scape, pedicel, and antennomeres III–V light orange brown; antennomere VI light orange brown basally, gradually darker toward apex; antennomeres VII–XI dark brown; legs orange brown, slightly darker on femora.

Head. Frons finely, abundantly punctate; with dense yellow pubescence, except narrow glabrous central area, with long, erect, abundant yellowish-brown setae interspersed (lighter depending on light intensity). Vertex with sculpturing as on frons; area between antennal tubercles and anterior margin of upper eye lobes with dense yellow pubescence; area between upper eye lobes with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument; remaining surface of vertex and area behind upper eye lobes with dense yellow pubescence (denser than between antennal tubercles); with long, erect, moderately abundant yellowish-brown setae (lighter depending on light intensity). Area behind lower eye lobes finely, abundant punctate close to eye, somewhat rugose-punctate on remaining surface; with dense yellow pubescence close to eye, glabrous close to prothorax; with long, erect yellowish-brown setae on pubescent area (lighter depending on light intensity). Genae with yellow pubescence close to eye, slightly sparser toward clypeus, glabrous on apex, with long, erect yellowish-brown setae (lighter depending on light intensity), toward ventral surface. Antennal tubercles with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument centrally, dense, yellow anteriorly and posteriorly, with long, erect yellowish-brown setae (lighter depending on light intensity). Gulamentum smooth, with a few short yellow setae on wide posterior area, finely, abundantly punctate, with yellow pubescence interspersed with long, erect yellowish-brown setae (lighter depending on light intensity) on narrow anterior area. Postclypeus finely, abundantly punctate on wide central area, smooth laterally; with yellow pubescence close to frons, sparser toward anteclypeus and sides of wide central area, glabrous on smooth region; with long, erect yellowish-brown setae (lighter depending on light intensity). Labrum finely punctate close to anteclypeus, nearly smooth on remaining surface; with long, erect, moderately abundant pale yellow setae, denser laterally. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.88 times length of scape (0.44 times distance between outer margins of eyes); in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.94 times length of scape (0.47 times distance between outer margins of eyes). Antennae 0.95 times elytral length, slightly surpassing middle of elytra. Scape, pedicel and antennomeres III–VI with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, except glabrous region of outer ventral surface, moderately short and dense yellowish setae on inner ventral surface of pedicel and antennomeres; remaining antennomeres with very short brown pubescence, with minute yellowish-white setae interspersed. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 1.45; pedicel = 0.39; IV = 0.89; V = 1.00; VI = 0.95; VII = 0.95; VIII = 0.83; IX = 0.78; X = 0.72; XI = 1.15.

Thorax. Prothorax transverse; sides uniformly rounded from anterior margin to posterior constriction. Pronotum finely, densely punctate; with moderately narrow, dense yellow pubescence close to anterior margin, with wide U-shaped yellow pubescent band on posterior half, with sparse pale yellow pubescence on remaining anterior half, glabrous on center of posterior half; with long, erect yellowish-brown setae on pubescent areas (lighter depending on light intensity). Sides of prothorax and prosternum with dense yellow pubescence fused with that on pronotum, except sparser, paler yellow central area close to pronotum, with long, erect yellowish-brown setae interspersed (lighter depending on light intensity). Central area of prosternal process distinctly narrowed. Ventral surface of meso- and metathorax, and abdominal ventrites with dense yellow pubescence (denser on sides of thorax and abdomen), with long, erect yellowish setae interspersed. Scutellum with dense yellow pubescence. Elytra. Finely, densely punctate; with six wide yellow pubescent bands, fused laterally along epipleural margin, one basally, almost absent close to scutellum, one slightly oblique on anterior sixth, ascendant from sides, not reaching suture, one slightly oblique on anterior third, descendent from margin, not reaching suture, one transverse on middle, projected upward along suture, one transverse on posterior third, reaching suture, and another entirely covering distal area; remaining surface with dark, sparse pubescence, absent on some areas, with a few short yellow setae interspersed, and long, erect, sparse brownish setae interspersed. Legs. Femora with yellow pubescence, with both, short and long white setae interspersed, not obscuring integument. Tibiae with bristly pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument. Tarsomeres with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, sparser dorsally on tarsomeres V, less so on protarsomere V.

Dimensions (mm). Total length, 12.10; prothoracic length, 2.40; anterior prothoracic width, 2.60; posterior prothoracic width, 2.35; maximum prothoracic width, 2.90; humeral width, 3.50; elytral length, 8.05.

Type material. Holotype male from the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , Nevada: Esmeralda Co., Boundary Peak, Trail Canyon , 20.V.2001, P.A. Opler col. ( TAMU).

Remarks. Ochraethes nevadensis sp. nov. is somewhat similar to O. dimidiaticornis , but differs as follows: pronotum with yellow pubescence covering wider areas; elytra with distinct yellow pubescent band basally; ventral surface of the body with dense yellow pubescence throughout. In O. dimidiaticornis , the yellow pubescence of the pronotum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–8. 1 ) is restricted to the anterior and posterior margins, elytra ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–8. 1 ), at most, with basal pubescent band slightly marked, and never as yellow as the other elytral bands, and ventral surface of the body ( Figs. 13–14 View FIGURES 9–14. 9–12 ) not covered with dense yellow pubescence throughout. Ochraethes nevadensis differs from O. viridiventris , and O. clerinus Bates, 1892 (see photographs of the types in Bezark 2019a) by the basal area of the elytra with two yellow pubescent bands (with a single wide band in O. viridiventris and O. clerinus ), yellow pubescent band on middle of the elytra not projected backward (projected in O. viridiventris and O. clerinus ), and penultimate yellow pubescent band of the elytra entire and transverse (oblique and fragmented in two parts in O. viridiventris and O. clerinus ). The new species differs from O. obliquus ( Chevrolat, 1860) by the second elytral yellow pubescent band ascendant from sides to suture (downward in O. obliquus ), penultimate yellow pubescent band of the elytra entire and transverse (oblique and fragmented in two parts in O. obliquus ), and by the elytral apex obliquely truncate (acute in O. obliquus ). The holotype specimen was discovered in a batch of unidentified Cerambycidae sent to the first author by Prof. Boris Kondratieff of Colorado State University. Through his kindness, the holotype is being deposited in the TAMU collection.
